The paint must also be non-slip or you will be falling over once it rains. Before deciding to paint your patio you might want to try a jet wash service to get it back to its original colour and c ondition. We have seen many customers who have painted their patio and then decided that it was better before! Most patio slabs will look much better once pressure washed and an acid cleaner applied. An acid bath will take the top layer or grime away and will result in a more presentable patio.
Pour the water over the pavers. Scrub the pavers' surface with the push broom to remove any stubborn stains or clinging dirt. Rinse the pavers off with a garden hose. Place buckets or cones around the perimeter of the paved area. Stretch a string or rope between the buckets or cones to stop vehicles and individuals from driving or walking on the pavers. Leave the pavers for one to two days to allow them to dry completely. Stir a can of acrylic cement primer with a paint stick to mix any separated liquids.
Pour the primer into a paint tray, filling it one-third to one-half full. Dip the soft end of a roller brush into the primer, coating its surface thoroughly. Roll the paint onto the pavers, moving the roller back and forth in smooth strokes to coat the pavers evenly. Repeat this process over the entire paved surface to prime it completely.
Pour any excess primer back into its can. You can use a roller or sprayer to do so, then just allow the paint to dry.
Note that it can take up to 24 hours for the paint to dry. After that, apply a second coat of paint and let it dry as well.
Finally, apply at least two layers of concrete sealant, observing the recommended time for drying between coats. We recommend you use a clean paint roller or sprayer to apply sealant, just as you did with the paint. Avoid walking or driving on the pavers until the sealer has cured. This process can take up to 48 hours. For instance, the paint creates a membrane that prevents moisture from escaping the pavers, so painting layers are bound to peel, eventually. Most people decide to paint their concrete pavers to make them look new again.
My husband had just finished painting the garden wall black and it looked incredible, I suggested painting our grim slabs grey after all this was the chosen slab we were aiming for and knew it would freshen and modernise the area. We ordered 3 x 5l of masonary paint, a roller on a pole this is good for painting decking too, next project and 1 x 3l concrete floor sealant.
The whole process was quite straightforward, after jet washing the area first, we then swept clean the slabs and then we were in a position to start rolling the paint on. This will ensure you get a nice even coat over the patio slabs. We also decided to protect our freshly painted garden slabs with one coat of water seal. It protects the slabs and paint from the elements and it will extend the life of your new patio!
After leaving the sealant to dry overnight, we then swept a fine layer of kiln sand over the patio area and then added the ready mixed cement and pointed around each slab. The next day we cleaned the slabs with a bucket of warm soapy water and a broom and viola, mission accomplished. Hope you enjoyed my garden slab makeover.
Do you want to try that idea or have you tried it already?
