Where is nittany mountain




















If you choose to hike up the white trail to the right, the rocks are less prominent, but there are plenty of inclines! After reaching the top, the trails weaving around the mountain are mostly flat and easy. Just enjoy wandering through nature. The worst is over! From State College, head to the small town of Lemont, a small community east on route When you reach East Branch Road, turn left. Parking can be found along the side of the road near the trailhead.

If parking along this stretch of the road is full, an overflow lot has been added just about yards down the street in the opposite direction. There is plenty of signage pointing towards this lot. The coordinates are N 40 Complete this classic hike, including taking in the views at each of the seven overlooks.

The trail system is divided into inner white-blazed and outer blue-blazed trails. None of the overlooks are separated by more than a mile. In fact, a few of these overlooks are less than 0. By far, the most popular overlook to visit is the Tom Smythe Overlook.

You will, however, be walking uphill almost the entire way, gaining about feet of elevation! For the more adventurous, you may want to challenge yourself to see all seven views. The outer loop is 4. Today, Mount Nittany is a popular hiking destination that offers natural beauty close to State College and some amazing vistas overlooking the valley. The mountain is crisscrossed by roughly 7. There is a small parking area adjacent to the trail which fills up quickly on weekends or summer days. Overflow parking is available in a nearby parking lot.

The hike starts off with a steep climb ascending approximately feet in the first half-mile. While shorter hikes are an option, I decided to do a five-mile loop that allowed me to see the best that Mount Nittany has to offer including all seven of the overlooks on the trail map. After ascending the hill making sure to stay to the right at the one trail split on the way up , I completed my loop along the outermost trails in the counter-clockwise direction.
